The home team started the brighter as they conserved the ball well in the opening exchanges. Their domination in possession lead to a try from flanker Josh Love.
The amounting penalties against Tows did not help their cause, the yellow carding of young hooker Fen Gallagher resulted in a try driven over from a Newbury line out. The Blues now lead by 12 points.
Tows then began to nudge themselves into the game, a kick from Ben Roe into the corner was latched onto by Dave Stocks who scored wide out. Tows then began to find their rhythm, a swift move from the backs aloud Adam Wilkinson to finish for a half time score of 12 – 10.
In the second half Tows discipline improved as their play was met by more approval by the ref, however with the blues kicker hitting the post and Ben Roe missing two penalty chances points did go begging.
Later on in the half Tows gained another penalty, this time Roe held his nerves and slotted the kick to put his team in front. A win looked on the cards as the Tows pack were in ascendency, camped on the Newbury line they looked as though they had the authority.
It was not over, Matt Yuill’s break and kick ahead saw the ball bounce unfortunately bounce over the dead ball line for a twenty two drop out.
The drop out was charged down but fortune was on Newbury’s side as their number eight gathered the ball, a rampaging run saw him sprint through countless tackles to score under the posts in the eighth minuet of injury time, the home crowd ecstatic with the finish to the game.
