The visiting team started the brighter taking the game to Tows and dominating possession, when Tows did gain possession their handling was erratic even though conditions were perfect for running rugby. Gradually though Tows found their form and started to threaten in front of their VP crowd. Form though was yet to come to the usually reliable boot of James Falvey who missed two kickable penalties. Witney’s fly half also struggled with the strong breeze as the two teams went into the break all square at 0 – 0.
After the break a yellow card for Tows Loose – Head Zac Osborne saw the squad gain aggression and they started to build momentum, on Osborne’s return Tows scrum shunted back Witney’s heavier eight for scrum half Chrissie George to score, not converted.
Tows scored quickly seemed to score again but were pulled back for an interference.
The hard fought game continued at loggerheads, Witney battling for a decisive score but finishing on the wrong side of the referee as they conceded a penalty which replacement Matt Yuill slotted, Witney’s ninth was not to be.
