A disastrous first ten minutes was highlighted by an attempted clearance kick which was gathered by the visiting winger who trotted in for the first points of the game. The try was converted.
It then went from bad to worse as clear cut scoring chances went astray, however it looked positive for Tows pack as they gained control of a driving maul which was pushed over the line, only to be fumble at the last.
After attempting to move the ball out wide they presented grove with an interception, Alex Morgan then ran the entire pitch to score, and Grove found themselves twelve points to the good.
A yellow card finally sparked an opportunity for Tows take advantage, Zac Osborne scoring from a well worked driving line out.
Later into the game handling errors began to creep into Tows’ play and prevented them from gaining any continuity. The defence, which is usually pristine, was letting the team down, Grove crashing through several tackles to strengthen their lead just before the break.
After the break an improved Tows side took to the field. Mark Yeates bundled over to begin Tows’ revival, this was converted by Ben Roe.
Tows were now coming back at Grove with full intensity and with a penalty kicked by Ben Roe seeing them come to within a score, anxiety started to come into play. A lack of discipline saw them marching another ten yards back from a penalty, Roe kicked to the corner.
There was a nail biting finale in store for the home crowd as the ball was thrown into the line out, the final push was finished by Richard Tustian and left the visitors scratching their heads, wondering how they gave the game away.
