Tows started in top fashion, nocking back the home side whilst mounting pressure on the home side’s line. A string of penalties lead to a line out drive that was scored by Liam Wilkinson.
At this point it was all Tows as Falvey stretched the lead to ten. With Whitney slipping up and creating countless errors David Devlin – Jones took the opportunity to put Tows into an excellent scoring position, giving Tom George a chance to crash over. Falvey added the conversion.
Whitney now simply had to come into the game, and so they did and began to show their true colours, stretching the Tows defence. This lead to a rather intermittent stage of the game, Whitney’s pressure concluded with a yellow card and the game was then stopped again as Chrissie George, on his return from injurie received a horrific slash cut to his leg which saw him leave the field.
The injury and another harsh yellow card to Devlin-Jones seemed to change the complexion of the game, a Whitney penalty saw the home team finally on the board and started the comeback.
Following the conversion of the penalty the local side bundled pressure on the Tows line, this then told as they scored out wide to bring them to within a try.
With Tows now the ones making the errors, the Whitney full back spotted a huge gap in the middle of the park to saunter through and score under the posts. The scores were now tied.
The final period of the game was dominated by Whitney as they looked to take the win. The penalty finally came in the last few minutes, and was hard to miss. This rounded off a narrow but well deserved win for Whitney and left Tows with their head in their hands.
