Westcliff first and second team travelled the 3 hours to put on 2 very entertaining games of rugby.
The visitor turned up with what looked to be a side of back row forwards and 3 backs.
The game started very evenly with both side pushing forward testied either sides defence.
It was a mistake from Towcester that lead to the first try a simple knock on was gathered by Westcliff's fastest back how simply gassed the trailing defence to score in the bottom corner.
Tows tried to strike back but after a nice break from the 22 Ryan Kruger pulled up with a hamstring strain. Phil Andrews brought onto the wing pushed Michael Fagan to full back. 2 minutes later Jamie King had to be replaced by Alan Chapman earlier that anticipated.
Tows started to get on the front foot for the next 10 minutes but another injury to Frazer Kerns and the back line had to be rejigged again. Ben Lawrence took over at nine and Matt Hampson came on the cover ten.
Eventually Tows did manage to string a decent set of phases together and it ended up to Matt Bodily to crash over the line.
Half time both sides were even at 1 try apiece.
The second half started very similar to the first but the visitors started to dominate at the set piece, this didn't help Towcester causes as they were marched backward 10 to 15 metres every time. It must be said even going backward they guys never gave away any penalties by unbinding or dropping the scrum at any time.
From a penalty the visitor kicked to touch. Forming a rolling maul they tried to push the defence 20 metres back. It took another 10 phases of play until they eventually powered over the line for the second score.
Error started to creep into the game more and more, dropped ball lead to more scrums for the visitors and will they were on the front foot Tows defended gallantly.
Later into the game and a few poor decisions and more errors let the visitors off the hook when we started to get parity and looked like evening up the scores.
The final score for the visitor came from a very speculative chip forward that was collected by the open side winger who had no one in front of him to dot down in the corner.
The guys never gave up through the whole game and is a testament to the depth of the second and third team squads who came together to play today.
Towcester man of the match was Matt Bodily
