Leighton Buzzard RFC v Towcestrians RFC
Leighton Buzzard RFC 48pts v Towcestrians RFC 18pts
A long trip to Leighton Buzzard did not end well for a very young Development side.
With a lack of numbers again Towcester managed to scrap together 16 players for the trip .
From the kick off Buzzard showed that they were a side that had been together for a while as their backs moved the ball through the hands very well opening up the scoring in under 3 minutes.
Tows attacked straight from the re start and were awarded a penalty which Callum Jones slotted over the posts. Buzzard hit back 3 more times using their heavier forwards before David Moss managed to grab a bobbling ball in the in goal area to score Tows first try .The substitution of Matt Snook brought on Harry Peart and a re jig of the front row had to take place. Tows scrum was never settled and the loss of Matt didnt help the cause.
The play was slightly stop start as the infringement became to many for the referee to stand . Scott Howkins was first to recieve a yellow for team infringement followed 3 minutes later by Rob Bodily for dissent.
With Towcester down to 13 men Buzzards forward power showed as they dominated the rest of the half .
The half ended with Buzzard taking a lead of 34 - 8.
The second half was a more even affair. The younger backs of Towcester started to run through and around the Buzzard forwards opening up holes that the backs and forwards started to exploit. Unfortunately the set piece was still dominated by the heavier Buzzard forwards who gave nice clean ball for their back to attack from.
The first of Tows 2nd half scores came from Rob Bodily as Lewis Smith stripped the ball away from the over confident Buzzard forwards enabling Dom Preece to run nearly the full length of the pitch just to be caught 10 metres from the line, Harry Charles following manage to take the ball on further before the attack moved out wide eventually created a hole for the try.
Towcester s final try came from Harry Peart as the ball was stripped again by one of the youngsters poping the ball out to Peter Gowler who bustled his way forward open up the feild , Richard Carter moved the ball wide and eventually Harry got on the end of the movel to score the try.
Next week the league starts and with alot of the youngster of to University players need to step up make themselves available.
