Rugby a game for all shapes and sizes as shown by two teams determined to use the forwards on one side and the backs on the other.

Towcestrians RFC Development XV 33pts vs. Market Rasen & Louth RFC 12pts

With the lack of props for Towcester to field, the game had to start with uncontested scrums. Although this is not ideal both sides came out to play their own brand of rugby.
From the kick off MK Rasen tried to use the large pack to dominate proceeding, unfortunately for them Towcester managed to wrestle the ball away and Matt Huck, Ryan Blackwell and Patch Griffiths came away from the first of numerous breakdowns stealing the ball to set up the first attack for the backs.
Rob Bodily span the ball out from the back of the breakdown and Benjamin Roe broke the first tackle to off load to Dominic Clark who jinked and sped his way past the defence to score on 7 minutes. Ben Roe took the extra point with a drop kick conversion.
From the kick off Rasen chased well but the ball was again moved quickly through the hands making the opposition chase from one side to the other.
With the defence stretched again the forwards drove the ball forward again a few metres to open up the centre again for Ben Roe and Dom Clark to put together the next score. Ben again added the conversion to put Tows 14 points into the lead.
The next score came from a catch and drive from Garth Collins and Ryan Yeates catching from the kick off and forming the first breakdown Michael Clarke and Ryan Blackwell drove it forward 2 more metres Twinny span the ball wide Matt Lama off loaded to Ben Roe who unleashed Dom Clark who held the defensive drift allowing Dave Moss the extra room to run in the 3rd try.
Rasen did muster a fight back as they used a very good rolling maul from a lineout to pressurise the Tows try line the defence held strong for numerous phases but eventually the try came.
Just before the break Ryan Yeates popped a thumb and the only sub for the day saw Matt Bodily come on for the last couple of minutes.
The second half started similar to the first with Towcester competing at every breakdown but the indiscipline gave the opposition field advantage. The second score for Rasen came after a number of penalties and strong rolling mauls. Rasen were unable to convert the extras and the game was still very tight.
It took 15 minutes of the second half for Matt Bodily to show why the first team are eager for him to be fully fit. He used his feet to open up an attacking opportunity and his strength to finish the score under the posts. Ben roe converted adding 2 more points.
Five minute later Matt again used his dancing feet to open up the opposition force his way past the defence to score again.
This was a very encouraging start and Towcester continued to exert the pressure. On the 65 minute it was that man Bodily diving for the try line again but the referee deemed the try to be short which was enough of a run out for Matt. Ryan Yeates returned suitable taped up to re-join the fray.
The last 15 minutes saw only one last attack from the opposition who could possibly have scored but for a try saving tackle from returning ex colt Josh Leavers who hadn’t even turned up to play but made the effort to pull on the Tows shirt when asked by Big Oz.
The final minutes of the game saw now more chances for both sides to score as the final whistle blew.
A well-deserved win against a determined travelling Market Rasen
