Christmas Cracker

This game was always going to be a cracker and with Nuneaton 2s sitting in 2nd place in the league with only one defeat and recruiting heavily in the 1st team the Tows 2s knew what was on the cards and yes most of Nuneatons pack are paid players . The game started in favour for tows who pushed the visitors back into their own 22 and the Tows squad kept them there for the majority of the 1st half . Tows got their break when they was awarded with a penalty and Callum Garwood got the game under way 3-0 . Tows pack had a tough test trying to control the large and very strong Nuns pack and just seemed to get pushed around to much but on a couple of occasions to Tows stole the ball but it was going to be a up hill battle trying to win the scrums . On occasions Tows looked to get the edge and push the Nunns back to allow Dave Stocks to slip the ball out to the backs who had been causing issues for their opposition and with some quick hands the Tows again opened up the gaps to allow fullback Cameron Young to glide his way through most of the Nunns backs and get a well worked try with Garwood kicking for the 2 extra points . Having gone up 10-0 the Nunns hit back with some frantic running from their forwards who just went phase after phase breaking their way down the field and got within the 22 on the home side for the 1st time with a driving maul to walk over to get their 1st try with the conversion 10-7 . Tows again started to dominate and with some great phases of their own and with great vision kicked across the pitch to only land straight into the hands of winger Sam Aitchison to get the 2nd try and again Garwood slotting the ball over 17-7
The secound half start in favour of the visitors who carried on with the forward runs and camped themselves in the Tows half and again they used their strength to run phase over phase trying to break down the Tows defence only to make a mistake and allow Murray Aitchison to run free but only to be caught by the Nunns fullback who some how managed to reach him this is when the game changed hands the Nunns piled on the pressure and took control with another driving maul which the Tows had no answer for and with some great defence kept the Nunns out but started to give away the penalties which the ref awarded Nunns with a Penalty try 17-14 . The Tows had this game in the bag with 12 minutes to play and all we needed to do was keep out of trouble and keep hold the ball but the Tows wanted more and kept pushing and running only to make a mistake and give the ball away which allowed Nunns in again to seal it off with a try FT 17-19 . If this game was a test of courage the Tows would have won this match as every player dug deep and gave everything and the Nunns coaches couldn't believe how tough we was and didn't deserve to be beat . This season has be a learning curve for us in this new league playing against some extremely tough sides even playing against National 2 2nd teams but we will continue to be better and stronger for 2017 .
Merry Christmas to all
Today's MOM goes to scrum half Dave Stocks
