What could have been very close ended up being a little bit on sided.

Towcestrians RFC Development XV 43pts vs. Spalding 2nd XV 7pts

On a nice bright March afternoon Towcester were the hosts to what appeared on recent results a decent Spalding side.
The game started with a good intensity as both sides weighed each other up. As usual most sides this season have had a larger group of forwards and try and use this to their advantage. This doesn’t mean that Tows can’t compete when the going gets physical it just means visiting sides cannot keep up with the pace that Towcestrians from 1 to 15 can play rugby.
It took all of 5 minutes for speedster Dominic Clark to put the first points on the board, an arcing run around the Spalding defence to score under the posts which he converted for a 7 point lead.
Not to be out done by his centre partner Matt Huck scored the next points by running hard and straight breaking at least 4 tackle attempts on the 16 minute mark. Dom converted again for the extras.
Even with this early domination the persistent infringement by Towcester earned Matt Huck a yellow card when Spalding had mounted one of their few attacks into the Tows half.
The consistent pressure eventually became fruitful as Tows ran out of bodies to defend their try line.
Half time turn round 14 – 7 to the home side didn’t really give a true picture of how the game was being played. Stern words from Captain Joe Chambers reinforcing the values of running rugby and playing to our strengths in the second half.
It took 20 minutes before the Towcester scored the next points. This was more down to desperate tackling from the visitors whose defence seemed solid.
A defensive clearance was pick up by new comer Sean Maher who made 20 metres before the ball was of loaded out to the backs, Matt Lama popped the ball to Billy Jones who scythed his was past numerous defenders to score just wide of the posts.
4 minutes later Dom Clark added another which was converted by Tom Doran who took over kicking duties.
As the score was starting to build the opposition infringed and were given two yellow cards with in a couple of minutes of each other.
Towcester pressed on and Matt Huck bust his way through for the next score converted again by Tom Doran.
The next 8 minutes belonged to the whole squad as backs and forwards contributed to the next 2 scores, the ball was kept moving and everyone made forward progress but Dom Clark dotted down for one and Tom Doran the other.
This was a great game to watch, the colts stepped up and played extremely well and it’s a get well soon to our two hospital casualties Ryan Yeates forehead gashed open and David Moss massive, huge, gigantic black eye.
Next week we are at home against Peterborough.
