BBOB Colts 0 Tows Colts 22
On A warm dry afternoon at St Andrews Road, Tows Colts put in a good first 20 minutes to take control of an inconsistent game. This first period Tows organisation told with some well orchestrated phases leading to Liam Shackley on the wing taking the first try with a strong straight 20 yard carry into the corner. The follow on try came quickly after flanker James Snook had opened up the defence with pacey break up the middle of the park, finding support from Paddy Falvey and finally ubiquitous Scrum half Giles Tudor-Price racing over for the score. Tows continued the pressure but we're held for another 10 minutes when eventually a backs break sparked by a jinking Alex Chalcraft run on the left flank led to returning Winger Sam Bean scorching over for Tows' third.
BBOB, who were fielding a team with several players new to the game dug in and managed to put pressure back on their offensive visitors, to show the game would not go entirely their way. a lack of discipline at the breakdowns led to spate of BBOB penalties which allowed them to pressure the tows line for the rest of the half.
The second half continued in much the same way, Tows putting pressure on themselves with unnecessary penalties and BBOB on some dangerously close attacks, Tows defence proved tenacious with hard work being put in up front by Ali Haynes, Cameron Cunningham, Hugo Austin and Charles Wilkins. In The final Quarter Tows were able to assert themselves again albeit without the same organisation of the first period, but when Ben Wileman and Gareth Tudor-Price wrought havoc on BBOB half backs up front they forced a turnover which was quickly shipped out to Cam Young on the wing, he was able to show pace down the left but was tackled two yards short a handling error by the BBOB defender was quickly snaffled up by a pouncing Paddy Falvey who scored the last try. This was impressively converted from distance by Alex Chalcraft who finally found accuracy with his boot on the day he passed his driving test.
On reflection a lot to work on before next week's encounter with Buckingham.
