Great win for the Chiefs against a physical opposition to cement top of the league position.

Trojans Chiefs 49 Portsmouth 7

After observing the minute's silence for Remembrance Sunday, the boys lined up on the first team pitch at the neighbouring KES sports ground. Conditions were great and the Chiefs were really up for the match. They were given a penalty when Euan was tip tackled. Matt made a good kick to touch to set up a line-out a few meters from their line. A driving maul was set up and Joseph dived over for the first try. Trojans next score came from a scrum. The ball was passed to Ollie on the wing who passed it inside from the touchline and the ball went though the hands to the other side of the pitch where Joseph was on hand to score his second try. With two missed conversions, the score was 10-0 after 10 minutes. Dylan had to be replaced by Rodrigo at full-back after a kick to the head and was taken out of the game as a precaution. From another penalty to Trojans, Matt found touch and from the ensuing line-out Fin W. went close to scoring. Josh was surprisingly successful with a speculative run through a crowded Portsmouth defence, scoring under the posts. Matt converted to make it 17-0. A good period of pressure was beginning to tell on Portsmouth and their lack of discipline resulted in them giving away penalty after a second tip tackle on Euan. Euan reacted and the ensuing altercation resulted in one of their players losing his cool. He was withdrawn from the game by their coach. Euan escaped punishment, but the boys were finding it difficult not to react to their aggressive opponents, Fortunately Thomas managed to keep control when Portsmouth players confronted him after he made a big hit on their scrum-half. The scrum was generally not going well for the Chiefs against a heavy and aggressive Portsmouth pack and Ash had to go off for treatment to his wrist after a scrum collapsed on him. Matt made the score 20-0 by kicking the next penalty. The final score of the half came after a good run from Ollie. The forwards followed up well, allowing Fin H. to finish in the corner.

At half time the boys were asked to front up to the Portsmouth players physically, but within the bounds of the law, and to maintain discipline by not reacting to their intimidation. They also needed to run the scrums on their terms rather than Portsmouth's.

Just as they did against Andover in the previous game, the boys went to sleep at the beginning of the second half. A penalty was quickly taken by Portsmouth with the Trojans players not re-treating and not facing the opposition. Their forwards took advantage and powered up the pitch. Despite a last ditch tackle from Linton, they scored under the posts. The score was now 25-7 and the next 15 minutes saw Portsmouth compete well and prevent the Chiefs from increasing their lead. That all changed when Euan scored from a tap penalty close to their try line. Unfortunately he took a blow to the head in the process and was withdrawn from the game. With the score now 30-7, the backs started to play with confidence and created the try of the game. Matt took the ball in his own 22, wrapped around Christian and sent a miss pass out to Rodrigo who made a great run deep into the Portsmouth half before offloading to Aubrey to score. Soon after, Aubrey broke away and ran in an excellent try from the half-way line. Matt's conversion made the score 42-7. The final score came from Joseph, taking the ball at pace close to their line, spun a couple of times before forcing the ball over the line to complete his hat-trick.

Portsmouth nominated Michael as their man of the match for his work rate and 'being everywhere'. It would have been well deserved. Unfortunately he was unable to dine with his team mates, so the MOM went to Joseph.
