Trojans Chiefs 5 Bournemouth 17
The Chiefs were in Dorset to play a re-arranged match with Bournemouth. A tough prospect, particularly with a few regular players absent. Unfortunately the boys didn't close them down enough in defence and were punished after 7 minutes when Bournemouth scored a converted try. Thereafter the Chiefs improved their game and the two centres, Christian and Fin W., led the way with some committed tackling. Joseph was the pick of the forwards in attack, but was often lacking support. Matt created an opportunity with a good kick up field which Adam collected and took the ball into their 22. Unfortunately they didn't come away with any points this time, but just before half-time another well placed cross-field kick. Under pressure, Bournemouth kicked it directly to Lucas at full-back who counter attacked and the move resulted in a penalty. The Chiefs played the ball and two wonderful miss passes gave Rodrigo the opportunity to score in the corner. The close half-time score of 5-7 reflected the effort the boys put in.
The second half saw the Chiefs creating more opportunities in attack but Bournemouth were very resilient in defence. There was a prolonged period when they were camped in our half and we struggled to relieve the pressure. Ollie C made a good run out of defence and Christian made a run into their 22. Bournemouth kept coming back. They drove over the line from a 5m scrum but the ball was brilliantly held up. However well they defended, the writing was on the wall. Their full back collected a clearance kick and ran around the defence and made for the line. Lucas made a brave attempt to tackle but couldn't prevent the try. He was taken off with a suspected concussion. Bournemouth added another unconverted try to make the final score 5-17. Not a bad result against one of the best teams in Dorset.
