Great win for the Chiefs against another strong Dorset team

Trojans Chiefs 66 Oakmedians 5

The Chiefs took on an Oakmedians side who we were told were on a par with their neighbours Bournemouth. They were expecting a close game, but their coach admitted afterwards that they had been blown away by the Chief's performance. The boys started well and after a couple of minutes took a scrum against the head in their 22. Ed picked up at the back, charged over the line and touched down under the posts. Matt converted. The backs created the second try, bringing Rodrigo into the line from full back. He looked as though he was held up close to the line, but used his strength to score a well deserved try. The next try started with Matt counter attacking deep in his own half. The ball was passed down the line and Oscar sprinted down the wing to score. Matt converted to make the score 19-0. After winning another of their scrums, Fin H. made a good run and went into contact. The ball was quickly re-cycled and passed along the back line. Unfortunately a loose pass saw an Oaks player intercept a pass between our centres and run the ball unopposed all the way up the field to score. The error was quickly forgotten as the boys came straight back and another powerful run from Fin H. ended with an offload to Euan for try number 4. Matt converted to extend the Chief's lead to 26-5. Joseph made a good run after collecting the re-start kick, but Oakmedians won it back. Not for long as Michael made a big tackle and Linton picked up the loosed ball and ran it upfield. From their scrum, Matt took advantage of some loose Oaks passing and fly-hacked the ball, followed up, kicked again and collected a friendly bounce to run in the try. He converted to make the score 33-5. The boys defended as well as they attacked with a big hit coming in from Oscar and Linton making tackles all over the pitch. A sixth try was created by a good run from Michael who offloaded for Fin H. to score. Matt added another conversion to make it 40-5 at half-time.

Ben and Holden were brought on for the second half and it was business as usual. Another excellent team try began with Ed picking up from a scrum. The ball was passed out to Fin H. who exchanged passes with Linton. The ball was re-cycled and Ben spread the ball wide. From the next breakdown, Joseph crossed from close range. Matt converted. The Chiefs scored again immediately. Sammy caught the ball from the re-start and released Fin H. who sprinted up the pitch and passed to Oscar to finish. Matt converted again to make the score 54-5. Ash was brought off the bench and made an immediate impact. Oakmedians made a spirited attack but failed to score with Matt clearing to touch. From their line-out, Holden broke away and intercepted their scrum-half's pass and put Ash away for a long sprint towards their try line. He didn't quite make it, but from the resulting scrum he picked up and drove over. Matt converted and was then substituted. A great performance, scoring 21 points. Good runs from Linton and Rodrigo took the Chiefs back up the pitch. Josh, now at 10, kicked the ball into the goal area but it was touched down by an Oaks player. However, from the 5m scrum, Ash repeated his earlier try to make the score 66-5. This proved to be the last score as the Oakmedians coach conceded the game with 13 minutes still to go. They had been unlucky to lose two players to injury, one with a broken collar bone.

A great team performance from the boys, exemplified by their captain Fin H. who was man of the match.

(Late result: Oscar 1 Mr. Jarvis 0)
