The U15 sevens squad faced a tough task, being grouped with Havant, Winchester and one of the two New Milton teams. They were also without a recognized scrum-half, with Linton and Dylan filling in. It was decided to simplify the lineouts with only two forwards and no lifting. The boys got off the a good start against the NM Sharks, scoring three tries in the first half, two from Oscar (one converted) and one from Christian (converted). Unfortunately they relaxed in the second half and NM came back with four tries to win the match 22-19. They fared much better against Havant scoring five tries, one each from Thomas (converted), Oscar (converted), Rodrigo and two from Ollie C (one converted). They played some excellent sevens winning 31-19. Matt was taken off with a dead-leg.
The boys continued to play well and ran Winchester close with three tries from Christian (converted), Oscar and Linton. Unfortunately, just as in the first game, they lost by one try to make the final score 17-21. A great effort nonetheless. It was assumed that we would finish third in the group and got into the plate competition, but thanks to Havant beating NM Sharks by one point, our tries/points record took us into 2nd place and a cup semi-final. It was hard work in the warm weather and players were regularly being swapped out to get a rest.
There was a long wait before playing the the NM Lions for a place in the cup-final. The boys rose to the occasion and edged the first half 17-14 with tries from Ollie C. (converted), Christian (converted) and Adam. Unfortunately Oscar was withdrawn after getting his head on the wrong side in a tackle and hurting his neck and was subsequently taken to hospital. Thomas was also given medical attention for a rib injury. Things continued to go against Trojans and they were outplayed in the second half, conceding three tries and losing 19-35. It didn't help that NM put all their best players on at half-time. The boys lost three of the four games, but that doesn't reflect how well they competed (although the stat's show that they scored 14 tries and conceded 15). With better preparation (and no injuries) they could have realized their potential and won the competition.
Forwards: Oscar, Thomas, Michael (Capt.), Phil, Adam
