A rucking good game

This game was a long time coming we have tried to play this 3 times before today but always got called of due to waterlogged pitches but today it was definately going to go ahead

My pre match talk was all about not under estimating Millbrook as they improve every time we play them but also to be creative and play as a squad. Knowing that MIllbrook had a big set of forwards I wanted the backs to take control and run this game and use the width and pace that we had in our squad.

Straight from kick off we put MIllbrook under pressure and with in the first minute Josh S was given the ball to score in the right hand side of the pitch. 8 minutes later after some good hands Taylor ran strong and took on a few defenders to score and bring the score to 0-10 to Trojans.

Millbrook came back at us and with only 7 meters from our try line they gave the ball to their massive No 3 who ran through a couple of players to score over the line. 5-10 to Trojans

The game got tighter and our rucking was the best rucking we have done all season against some of the biggest forwards we have played against all season. There was some great passes through the hands involving both backs and forwards and with 27 minutes on the clock all this hard work paid off when Fraser went of the line from 7 meters withe a strong run fending off a couplw of defenders. 4 minutes later all the hard work from Fin W was rewarded by a great try so make it 5-20 at half time

Half time we swapped a few players around and asked the boys to stay strong in defence and keep Millbrook away from our 22 so we could isolate their no 3.

Similar to the start of the 1st half we put pressure on Millbrook early and once again with in 2 minutes Josh S was offloaded a good ball after going through multiple hands and he was to cross the line for his second of the day. 5 minutes later more great work through the hands and Josh was able to finish off some good work to score his hatrick (I just wished he was older as that would of been a jug!) Dara was able to fend off the wind and convert Josh's try to bring it to 5-32 with 28 minutes to go.

During the next 20+ minutes Robbie worked hard and the forwards worked well winning the majority of the scrums. Some good running from Tom and Jenson and some really good.

One of the best tackles of the day was when Millbrook were clear though and could of scored just insde the touch line but the player kept running to score between the posts. When everyone had given up Fin W chased down the player and just as the player went between the post somehow Fin tackled the player beyond the try line and put him back in play. With good support we were able to win the ball and get out of our 22 and put Millbrook on the back foot. A few minutes later after some more good hands it ended up in the hands of Adam who did a clasic "Ash Splash" to score his first try and our last.

Final score Millbrook 5 - 37 Trojans Warriors

A great game played in a fantastic spirit by both sets of players and a true specticle of developing rugby players enjoying their rugby and playing for each other.

Well done to MIllbrook and we wish you all the best in the plate final and look forward to seeing some of you next season in colts rugby.
