Good performance by all

Fareham made the boys work hard for this win today and the score line flatters us but the backs played well and the forwards were strong.

With 3 development players occupying the bench and 1 starting the boys knew it was going to be a hard match. Fare hams forwards dominated the scrums and this is an area we need to work on but the result says it all.

It started off well with Euan (C) winning the toss and opting to play with the wind on their backs. Fareham took the start and we soon were on the attack and ended up with a scrum on their 5 meter line. We won the scrum and Ben P passed out to Matt B to score his first of 3 of the day. The next couple of minutes Fareham hit us hard in the scrums and won them and we were soon on our 22 with Fareham pushing us hard using their big front row. However it was our scrum and we won the ball and we played it through the backs and some great support work by Linton and Fin H allowed Linton to cross the line near the corner, which Matt B was able to convert from a crazy angle and make it 0-12 to Trojans. Straight from the kick off we attacked again and with in 3 minutes Louis who supported well crossed the line to make it 0-17. Our backs were playing it through their hands well now and was making some good ground however Fareham kept hitting us hard and held their line well for the next 7 minutes winning scrum after scrum and never giving up. However we were able to break their line and with a storming from from his own half Oscar was able to score and now it was 0-22 with still 10 minutes to play. Our line speed was better than weeks gone by but we still allowed them to gain 7-8 meters before most of our team had moved. However the first man in on the tackles was Matt B and for 7/8 attacks by Fareham he was the first man there and was always the first tackler (not bad for a 10!) all Matts hard work paid off as a couple minutes later he was able to score his second of the day with a great little solo break and scored between the post for which he converted to now make it 0-29 at half time.

Second half started well with us gaining possession after our kick off and Joseph picking up the ball from our half and fended off a dozen tackles and ran strong to score a well earned try as a perfect birthday present to himself. Next it was Dylan's time to join in the fun, he has made some great supporting runs for his team and it was time to be rewarded. Some great passing amongst forwards and backs allowed Dylan's support play to pay off and to cross the line in the corner. Great work by Linton, Mike R and Fin to allow Dylan to score this try. We now brought a couple of players off as we were now 0-39 up and brought on Alfie and William. After more great runs from the backs and linking well with the forwards Linton was able to grab his second of the game and well deserved too. Linton worked hard all game and supported well and was able to enjoy his second try of the game. We were now half way through the second half and Ben P came off as he was already playing with an injury and we put now Matt B in at 9 and Aubrey in at 10. Fare hams big forwards started to tire but never gave up and Christian was able to make one of his strong runs through their defence and was able to score just near the post for which Matt B was able to convert. Now the score was 0-51 and the backs were enjoying some great runs and were even putting some nice switches in place and a couple of moves of their own. It was now time for Fin H to join the fun and with a cracking pick and go from the back of the scrum he took the Fareham defence by surprise and ran home an excellent and well earned try. He had made so many great runs and offloaded some great balls and was finally rewarded with a try of his own. With Matt B now playing scrum half we had another scrum 10 meters from their line and Matt was looking for his Hatrick, lucky for Matt he was not going to wait too long for it. He looked up and realised their 9 and 10 were out of position he made a cracking solo effort into space and caught them napping and was able to score between the sticks. This run was typical of Matt B and he deserved his hatrick and was able to convert his own try. So with 5 minutes to go it was 0-63 but it was not going to be that score for long. Fareham took the kick off and he went Straight to Christian who caught the ball well and made his break he darted past their defence and ran hard to be able to score between the posts and made the conversion easier for Matt B to convert.

Overall a good performance but still plenty to work on. We still allowed them to run at us and still watched the ball when it was on the deck. However a big improvement with moving forward in our back line with the ball and crossing the gain line instead of passing backwards and not moving forwards. Our pack are strong and worked well when they they strummed down as a team, however Fareham won most the of the scrums and were the better scrummagers, however our line out drills have obviously been worked on allot at training and all the is paying off, as we tried a few different moves and all worked well. We just need now to work on our scrums and line speed. However the biggest positive as a coach is that we had 8 different try scorers on the score card and the 4 development players fitted in well and did not look out of place.
