MOTM - Cameron Haisman

Trojans Colts 2nd IV v Fareham Heathens Colts.

Sunday 14th September 2014 2.00pm

Colts Plate South League

Playing Condition – Warm and Sunny. ( Make the most of it !)

After a great first IV game v Jersey last Sunday, a further 15 Colts were given a starting place, and a chance to force a place in next Sunday’s team in the U-18’s Cup, away at Dartford. Fareham lacked a full front row, so the whole game was played with un-contested scrums.
Early territory was fairly equal, but with Trojans shading the possession. Trojans then took an early lead with a solo effort from Max Bickford, running in from 35 metres out. Max was back in the action again, kicking over the top of the Fareham defence. An excellent chase put Fareham under pressure, the ball spinning from right to left, giving Chris Bradley Trojans second Try. Further T’s pressure was not converted into points, and Fareham made Trojans pay, as their forwards drove over for a converted try. Foul play from Fareham resulted in a penalty, allowing Bicker’s to kick to touch deep in the Fareham half. Lineout ball secured, the ball moved quickly from right to left, leaving Chris Ngoulou a 20 metre dash to the line. A further penalty and lineout saw matt Kyle-Henney secure possession and set up T’s 4th try for Jo Greene, and converted by Max Bickford.

HT Trojans 2nd IV 22 – 7 Fareham Heathens

Fareham knocked-on, straight from the re-start, giving T’s possession from the resulting Scrum. Bickers seized the opportunity to score his second try of the afternoon. To Fareham;s credit, they battled back, and their forwards, for the second time, powered over T’s line, for their second converted try of the afternoon. Substitute Luke Till, started to punch holes in the Fareham defence and was unlucky not to score. T’s then added to their lead after fine runs from Conner jack and Luke till set up Max Long for try number 5. But again this prompted a response from Fareham. A lineout on T’s 5 metre line was won. But T’s backs failed to clear, and Fareham scored their 3rd try. Straight from the restart, Sam Semple went close to scoring T’s 6th Try. However, this honour fell to Michael Shepherd, converted by Connor Jack. The game then degenerated slightly with a few un-necessary flailing handbags before time was called.

Trojans shaded the quality this afternoon, but Fareham competed to the end, producing a game enjoyed by supporters from both teams.

Final Score Torjans 2nd IV 39 – 19 Fareham Heathens.
Tries
Bickford x2, Bradley, Ngoulou, Greene, Long and Shepherd.
Conversions
Bickford, Jack.
Lots of positives this afternoon. Max Bickford impressed in the backs, as did substitutes Luke Till and Connor Jack. In the forwards, Jo Greene was well worth his try. Impressive in the line-out, and with a series of strong run’s
My MOTM goes to Cam Haisman.
