Eastleigh Colts v Trojans Colts 2nd XV.
Sunday 2nd November 2014 2.00pm
League – Plate South Division
Playing Condition – Overcast, showers
Local bragging rights at stake today, as the two clubs in Eastleigh clashed in a Plate South league fixture. Several former Eastleigh players (Barnes and Hull) bolstered the Trojans team, whilst Eastleigh had lost several players to county duties.. The Colts were out for revenge, as yesterday, Eastleigh Mend 1st XV had outplayed Trojans, to win 34-0 at Stoneham Lane.

Trojans started the game on the front foot, with Eastleigh struggling to cope with the Trojans attack. George Goff scored an early Try (Converted by Dan Barnes), and Adam Dawes added a second only minutes later. Eastleigh finally got on the offence, and sloppy Trojans play gave Eastleigh a very kickable penalty. They dispatched the kick to claim 3 points, but it proved to be their first and final score of the afternoon. A kick deep into Eastleigh territory, gave Trojans the opportunity to get their driving maul going. Eastleigh had no answer, and Kal Traynor added T’s 3rd try of the afternoon. Another Dan Barnes kick deep into touch, set T’s up again. This time Alex Buck added another 5 points to the T’s total.

HT Eastleigh 3-23 Trojan’s .

Eastleigh’s effort could never be faulted, but their tenacious tackling was having an adverse effect on their own team. With their sub used, the injuries mounted. Down to 12 fit players, Eastleigh were forced to concede the game at 3-23.

To see out the afternoon, Trojans joined the Eastleigh ranks, and the boys played out the final 20 minutes. Ed Grinstead set off on a number of charging runs, and firther tries were added by Brad apps and Matt Evenhand. One converted by Dan Barnes.

Final Eastleigh 3 – 23 Trojans
Goff, Dawes, Buck & Traynor
In Summary, Eastleigh tackled well, and made a game of it all afternoon. However, they did not possess the attacking threat to trouble Trojans. Trojans attacking play took it toll, both on the scoreboard and on the Eastleigh Team itself. So the Colts restore some Trojans pride, where the men’s team failed yesterday.
My Trojans MOTM goes to Luke Joslin.
Some battering ram runs, and even an odd tackle. Getting back to his best !
