Trojans Colts 2nd XV v Fawley Colts 1st XV
Sunday 16th November 2014 2.00pm
League – Plate South Division
Playing Condition – Overcast, showers
After a good 1st team victory last week, we looked to the second team to continue the winning run this afternoon, against Fawley, who had W1, D1, L2, in their first 4 fixtures of the season. The games was only minutes old when Luke Joslin collected the ball, just inside the Trojans half, and then barged through the Fawley defence for a solo try. Great play from the backs followed, and Connor Jack had a try disallowed for a foot in touch. T;s then caught Fawley behind their try line. The forwards drove over from the 5 metre scrum, and Jo wright touched down for T’s second try. Conner Jack again came close, but the third try was another solo effort, this time from Elijah Pitt. (converted by Dan Barnes). The backs were in full flow now, and Dan Barnes set up Elijah for his second try, again converted by Dan B. A strong run from Jo Green, allowed Dan Barnes to chip over the Fawley defence, with Elijah outsprinting the field to score his third try. (Converted by Dan B.) Connor Jack was determined to get in on the try scoring action and came close for a third time, but was denied by a foul high tackle. A penatly, kick to touch, lineout ball claimed, forwards drive over, George Goff scores, and Dan B’s conversion attempt hits the post. The first half action was not finished yet. Shay Bradley, smashed a big hole in the Fawley defence, allowing Luke Joslin to score his second try.
HT Trojans 41- 0 Fawley.
With a commanding half-time lead, Trojans brought on a host of substitutes to start the second half. Trojans taking time to gel, allowed Fawley to dominate the early minutes of the half, and score a deserved try. Straight from the kick-off, T’s were back into their stride, with Johnie Jackson coming close. T’s pack then took a scrum against the head, allowing Elijah to score his 4th try, and kick the conversion as well. Dave Wilson, impressive all afternoon, split the defence, and sub Chris Bradley was on-hand to score. (converted by Elijah). Fawley almost scored their second try, after a fine break by their No 10, who played well all afternoon. However, T’s backs were just to fast for Fawley, and despite the wet and muddy conditions, were now scoring at will, Elijah, found time to set up Chris Bradley again, and converted it, and again converted the next try, a solo effort from Brad apps. Kal Traynor was next to score, then Michael Shepherd looked like the next. A mazy 50 metre run almost did it, but tackled short of the line, Brad apps was there to finish the move off. (Converted by Elijah.) And as if he hadn’t scored enough points already, Elijah was there to finish off and end to end move, and convert it as well !
Final Score Trojans 84 – 5 Fawley
Pitt x 5, Joslin x 2, Bradley x 2, Apps x 2, Wright, Goff, Traynor
Barnes x 2, Pitt x 5
In Summary, in wet and muddy conditions, the backs gave an absolute master class in how to play rugby. Their pace and handling ability was far too much for Fawley, with the backs scoring 12 of the 14 tries this afternoon. It was great to see so much effort from the whole squad today, and some will surely be knocking on the door for selection against Havant in the next 1st XV game. Special mention to Fawley, who never gave up today, and were a little unlucky not to put a few more points on the scoreboard.
My Trojans Joint MOTM goes to Forwards – Dave Wilson, and Backs – Elijah Pitt.
There were 22 Trojans men of the match today. However, for sheer work rate and effort, Dave Wilson was the outstanding Forward today. We also have to praise Elijah Pitt, who in his first game this season (back from injury), basically scored with almost every touch of the ball, amassing an individual 35 points.
Onwards to the Isle of Wight next weekend !
