Gosport and Fareham Colts 1st XV v Trojans Colts 1st XV.

Playing Condition – Very Windy and light drizzle.
Very, Very windy conditions were going to make it very hard for all the players this afternoon. Playing slightly against the wind, Trojans still managed to dominate the first 15 minutes of play, which was all in the Gosport half. However, progress towards the try line was plagued by continuous handling errors. Dan Wotton did come close, but was stopped right on the line. Gosport then infringed near the posts and Dan Barnes kicked the penalty. Then in Gosport’s first visit to the Trojans half, a quick tap penalty caught T’s knapping. One phase later, and Gosport crossed the line for the afternoon’s first try. 5 minutes later, on their second visit, a penalty enabled Gosport to extend their lead to 5 points. So despite dominating play and territory, T’s went in behind at half time.

The second half proved to be a more equal affair in terms of possession and territory, but Gosport continued to provide the cutting edge. An early penalty gave them an 8 point lead. Then a disastrous T’s lineout, which was won, but a series of suicidal back passes allowed Gosport to intercept, and score their second try. T’s did then enjoy some attacking play, and Ryan Bernie scored what proved to be T’s only try of the afternoon. Gosport slotted home another penalty, and that was the final score of the afternoon.

In Summary, T’s enjoyed more ball and more territory than Gosport. However, handling errors, and a lack of cutting edge and aggression in the tackle, cost T’s a game they could have won.
