Trojans Academy travel to Cranleigh for a friendly fixture

Trojans Academy travelled to Cranleigh for a friendly fixture against their Colts side. Wintery conditions greeted both sides with a cold breeze blowing across the pitch interspersed with rays of sunshine.

Trojans had the best of the early play with the forwards working hard and the backs trawling for opportunities. From a line out the forwards battered away at the Craneligh defence creating an opportunity for Tom KO who proved too slippery for the defence and cross the line and convert the try, 7-0. Trojans were in the ascendancy and just floundered at the final hurdle 3 times as the sought to increase their lead. Cranleigh’s sole foray out of their half during this period led to a charge through the middle with Trojans failing to net their man as Cranleigh scored under the posts to make it 7-7.

Trojans Academy re-grouped and with more purpose to their game pressed ahead with backs and forwards combining well for Scott O to muscle his way over to give them a deserved lead at halftime 14-7.

Cranleigh Academy started the second half by taking the game to Trojans and pushing deep into their half. The defence held firm as Cranleigh crabbed across the pitch seeking opportunities. Trojans came back into the game with a number of drives into the Cranleigh 22 from deep. From a central position the forwards created a solid platform for Tom KO to release the backs with the ball passing through the hands along the line to Harry C to score wide out ,19-7.Tom KO converted from wide out to make it 21-7.

Cranleigh attacked with renewed vigour claiming territory deep in the Trojans half over the next 10 minutes however each time they were forced back. From a line out they were awarded a penalty which they decided to run. After recycling the ball 3 times they eventually scored from close in, 21-12.

As the game opened up both sides managed to create attacking situations with the intensity tackling increasing with MOM Ben S making several notable tackles.Trojans clawed their way into Cranleig's half and Olly JH came in off of his wing to skate over and score to take the score to 26-12 which is how the game ended.

After the game Trojans skipper JC said the team had put in a strong performance with the coaching team pleased that the improvements they hoped for were now starting to happen. However with a string of challenging fixtures coming up over the run in to Christmas everyone on the team know more work is required as they seek to improve and develop.
