A convincing win at Old Williamsonians

A long two and a half hour trip to Rochester with most of the team having played the Hampshire Bowl fixture two days previously was of some concern for a match against unknown opposition but Trojans were up to the challenge and came away with a significant win.

Trojans had an early set-back with Jack Groves being yellow carded in the first five minute for a late tackle but as soon as he was back Trojans opened the scoring through a good backs move ending with Joby Kochanowski chipping over the defence with Charlie Pooley running round the defence to touch down, Toogi Long adding the conversion. A few minutes later Kochanowski was on the end of a sharp backs move to shimmy through the defence to score the first of his three tries, two of which were converted by Long. The second was another strong backs move but the third owed much to the open play and mauling of the forwards, particularly Groves and Coffin. OW, who generally were looking a strong running side, got onto the scoreboard with a goal just on half time.

OW kicked off the second half and the ball was caught by Alex Williams who stormed up the field then slipped the ball to Pooley who pirouetted his way through the defence to score under the posts for a simple Long conversion. OW then put in a strong period of attack and were eventually awarded a penalty try for an off-side preventing a score. On the quarter hour some excellent interplay by Trojans took play deep into the OW twenty-two where new scrum-half Rory Edwards scored his first try for the Club, Long converting. Five minutes later Trojans again showed their running strength with Pooley making great ground for Long to finish off and convert himself. Trojans maintained the pressure and a neat chip through saw new centre Ben Fontaine score his first try in his debut match. Despite the deficit, OW kept going and were eventually rewarded with a goal but, not to be outdone, Trojans had the last say with a Dave Linton try, the conversion of which gave Long a total of 19 points.
