A convincing win under the lights

A convincing win for Trojans in this Hampshire Bowl match but the score belies the effort put in by the Medics.

Trojans made a great start putting pressure on the Medics and, on just two minutes, were awarded a penalty on the Medics 22 which was kicked by Toogi Long. Straight afterwards Harry Stonehill made a great burst down the wing from half-way but just failed to touch down. On seven minutes, a scrum on the half way line fed the backs and Johnny Smyth scythed through to score under the posts for an easy Long conversion. An attack by Trojans saw Chris Boyd attempt a drop goal but it hit the post and bounced back for Dave Linton to gather up and barge over giving Trojans a 15 – 0 lead after only ten minutes. However, the Medics fought back and pressured the Trojans line a few times but could not finish off and it wasn’t until the 25th minute that a Trojans attack saw a strong maul push over the line with Callum Hall claiming the touch-down. The Medics kept up their spirits and were rewarded with a try just before half-time.

Five minutes into the second half, Trojans were on the attack again and Charlie Pooley slithered his way through for a try in the corner. Five minutes later, Pooley was on the score-board again having gather a high kick from the Medics well inside his own half and scythed his way right up the pitch to score under the posts and with Long converting. Another 5 minutes, and Trojans were on the attack again with an extensive play from their own half, finished off by Joby Kochanowski, converted by Long. On 25 minutes, the Medics were on the attack and got to the Trojans 22 but Long intercepted the ball and chased the length of the pitch desperately followed by two Medics who failed to catch him, and he still had the energy to take the conversion. To their credit, the Medics had never given up and were able to gain a goal just before no-side.
