Trojans home match against Alresford in the quarter-final match in the London Division section of the RFU Senior Vase was played in very wet conditions but, ultimately, Trojans managed the weather better and pulled off a last minute win.
Trojans had by far the best of the opening exchanges and had a number of scoring opportunities but, on twelve minutes Alresford worked their way down the pitch, for the first time, and secured a five metre line-out from which they mauled over the line, the long range conversion going in-off the post. Trojans came back with some strong play pushing right to the Alresford line and a five metre scrum was pushed over the line with the referee awarding a penalty try. The rest of the half was played out with both sides trying attacking moves but handling errors, mainly due to the weather, prevented any more scores thus the half ended even at 7 – 7.
The first five minutes of the second half saw a continuous ping-pong kicking competition but Trojans broke the impasse when a scrum ten metres from the Alresford line was pushed right over the line for number eight Chris Boyd to claim the touch down, the conversion just falling short. On the quarter hour Alresford kicked a penalty to the corner, following Joby Kochanowski being yellow carded for a deliberate knock-on, and after winning the line-out, mauled the ball over the line with, under the conditions, a very good long range conversion to put them two points ahead. Play continued with a battle of attrition with the conditions creating many handling errors but with Trojans just making the better of things and threatening the Alresford line. With ten minutes to go, Alresford were shown a crucial yellow card, enabling Trojans to maintain the pressure with some excellent mauling resulting in Chris Wright scrambling over the line to score and the final whistle being blown soon after the kick-off giving Trojans the last gasp win.
