A frustrating game for Trojans who were well beaten in the scrum and, with the extreme pressure exerted, Tiffinians should have been well out of sight by half-time but strong Trojans defence and some excellent running and passing from both backs and forwards outshone the Tiffinians backs. The lead changed hands nine times and Trojans outscored Old Tiffinians by 5 tries to 4 and 2 bonus points on the road had to be accepted.
Trojans kicked off but the ball went straight into touch and from the ensuing scrum Old Tiffinians pressured the Trojan line and were rewarded with a penalty. On ten minutes Trojans were under pressure in the middle of the pitch but a loose ball was picked up by Chris Boyd who made a strong run finished off by Alex Williams, the try converted by Neal Haworth. Trojans then had to suffer ten minutes of extreme pressure giving away numerous penalties in their own 22 with Tiffinians opting each time for the scrum and eventually being awarded a penalty try with George Goff receiving a yellow card. Trojans continued to give away penalties, due mainly to the power of the Tiffinians pack, and Tiffinians kicked for a line-out near the Trojan’s 5 metre line from which they powered over in the corner. Trojans then picked up their play and got well into the Tiffinians half and some good forward interchanges saw hooker Joe Milton crash over. Soon after, Jobi Kochanowski, picked up a dropped ball in a Tiffinians move and ran from the half-way line to score under the posts with a Haworth conversion to give Trojans the lead for the first time. However, right on half time Tiffinians put a rare backs move together to retake the lead with a try in the corner with a very good ;long-range conversion.
The second half started with Trojans stuttering with a number of penalties against them but on the quarter hour some excellent interpassing by forward and backs saw Jobi Kochanowski cutting through to score near the posts to regain the lead, This was short lived with a very long range penalty from Tiffinians but regained on the half hour after some tricky play from scrum half Haworth setting up a good backs move with Charlie Pooley scoring in the corner and Haworth kicking the long range conversion. The last ten minutes was very tense with Trojans, again, giving away penalties and Tiffinians opting for the scrum and, with only minutes to go, they finally pushed the Trojans pack back over their line to score with the successful conversion just enough to win the game by the single point.
