Because of Trojans continued involvement in the RFU Senior Vase giving fixture problems, this match was played as a double header of League and Hampshire Bowl semi-final and the venue swopped to Petersfield.
Trojans kicked off, Petersfield caught the ball and kicked to touch on the half way line. Trojans won the ball and the backs swept into the Petersfield 22, returned the ball to the forwards where No 8 Alex Williams crashed through to score by the posts giving Toogi Long an easy conversion, all within the first minute. For the next quarter of an hour, Petersfield gained control of the game, largely due to a high penalty count against Trojans and took the lead through a penalty and a try scored from a quick penalty. On twenty minutes, Trojans put together some good interplay with forwards and backs, pushing into the Petersfield 22 where prop Jacob Poulton stormed over for an unconverted try. After some Trojans attacking moves, Petersfield moved into the Trojans half and more indiscipline allowed them to score another penalty. Trojans then came back with a second try for Williams resulting from a charge off a five metre line-out. Petersfield then had a pretty lively period and yet another penalty was gained before some good backs play allowed them to break the Trojans defence to score in the corner. A good long distance conversion gave Petersfield a 21 – 17 half time lead.
Trojans made a great start to the second half when, receiving the ball from the Petersfield kick-off, Williams stormed down the pitch and well into the Petersfield half. A penalty kick just went wide but another penalty straight afterwards was run and Long ran into the corner with a good long distance conversion by himself. Trojans were now pulling things together and strong and swift movement eventually saw Jack Groves battle his way over the line with another Long conversion. Although Trojans were now getting on top, Petersfield kept threatening and were rewarded with another penalty but that turned out to be their only second half score and Trojans forged ahead with three tries in the last quarter. The first came from a rare strike against the head in a five metre scrum and a simple backs move ended with Chris Boyd going over and Long converting. Then a poor attempted clearance by Petersfield went loose and was picked up by centre Ben Fontaine to run from his own half to touch down with another Long conversion. Although Petersfield kept their efforts up and tested the Trojans defence, Trojans finished the game off with a Jack Groves try right on time to finally give Trojans a convincing win, a league bonus point and a place in the Hampshire Bowl final.
