Trojans were given a much harder game than anticipated, because of the lower league position of Petersfield and the convincing Trojans win earlier in the season, with Petersfield contributing well to what turned out to be a very open game.
Trojans started well with a number of attacks in the Petersfield half but, on five minutes, an interception on the half-way line resulted in a Petersfield player run straight to the line to score with an easy conversion. The rest of the half saw play go from end to end with both sides having scoring opportunities, Petersfield came closest getting over the line but the ball being held up. Thus Petersfield ended the half 7 – 0 ahead.
Trojans started the second half on the attack and on three minutes prop Marcus Coffin repeated his trick of last week by charging through the defence, from 15 metres out, to score in the corner. On the quarter hour play had flowed back and forth until from a 5 metre scrum and maul the ball was scrambled over the line by, who else, Marcus Coffin, this time close enough for a Toogi Long conversion. Long was again on the scoreboard on the half hour when Trojans were attacking and a neat Toogi Long chip over the defence was touched down by himself, just getting under a desperate dive by the Petersfield defence. Petersfield then went for all-out attack with some good running producing some scoring opportunities, one penalty completely missed kicked and a try disallowed because the referee had already blown his whistle for a Petersfield penalty. However, Petersfield persisted and were rewarded with a goal right on full time to give them a crucial losing bonus point.
