Manchester Easter Cup.
We played three games in the group B league. First game against Bee-Inspired soccer academy. The boys came out tired from a late night and the team display showed at times tiredness. Three easy goals and two very good goals left us deflated with an opening 4 -0 loss.
30 minutes rest and a good effort from the coaches’ team talk and we were back on the pitch to take on a local Scottish rivalry from Glasgow, Pollock United Lazio.
We were soon 1-0 up through an own goal when Pollock put the ball over his own goal keeper. Then a few minutes later Ryan McKee
made it 2-0. A lot of good movement and Logan Roberts
put a through ball splitting the defence for Lucas McKenzie
to make it 3-0. After a run through the middle Pollock hacked down Jack Wilson
and the ref awarded us a penalty. Jack Wilson
stepped up and calmly beat the keeper with a penalty to the top right of the goal, 4-0. Lucas McKenzie
then made an assist for Logan Roberts
to finish the game with a 5-0 win. Archie Alan gaining a clean sheet award. We are now 2nd i n our group with 1 win from 2 games and +1 goal difference.
Our last against the Soccer Akademie, the boys went on with too much confidence and this stood out as the team support dropped out and we soon fell behind. We did come into the game with some very good moves and Matthew Clark
at the far post missed the chance to bring back a goal. At 3-0 down the lads were getting rather disruptive and Jack Wilson
lost his cool when challenged in the Akademie box, the resulting stamp on the player laying on the floor resulted in Troon Thistles first ever issue of a yellow card, in our opinion Jack was extremely lucky as this could have resulted in a straight red. Sammy Kyle
pushed hard and managed to pull a goal back at the end which was a very important goal as it turned out. The Akademie won 4-1 but Sammy Kyle
’s goal meant we finished as the best placed 3rd team in all 3 groups and we then went into the quarter finals of the cup.
Quarter final day and Troon Thistle have been drawn against Pollock United Roma. A team we have faced before in Prestwick and lost 3-0. This time around we were going at them from the start, in theory that would have worked but when you are second to every ball it does take away the ability to play football. Zack Batchelor produced some good saves but badly hurt himself and had to leave the field with Archie Alan coming on. The shots on goal we did have were few with Sammy Kyle
(goal keeper saved and held ball) and Kieran Spurling
(keeper palmed away to the left side with no one heading in to tap the ball home). Quarter final loss to Pollock Roma 4-0 was hard to take, the end to the game resulted in a few tears of disappointment amongst the lads.
The Portuguese coach then asked us for a friendly International between Portugal and Scotland. A hastily 20 minute game was arranged and Jamie Eskdale
was first on the score sheet (£10 richer again). A Portugal attack and a powerful shot was tipped over the bar by Archie Alan. Up the other end Matthew Clark
broke through the defence and went 1 on 1 with the Portuguese keeper, a cool head and he slotted to the keepers left to make it 2-0 to Scotland.
