Stuffed out the Buffs

Another brilliant team performance today. All the boys done exactly as asked and what they have trained for over the past few weeks. Pressure and possession proved to be the undoing of a strong Kilwinning team. The first 14 minutes both teams were testing each other out to see who had the better running and pace, with both sides breaking and each defence holding strong, that is until the left winger wizard William Davies broke down the left and crossed for Kieran Spurling to challenge the keeper and push the ball into the back of the net 0-1. Two minutes later with Kilwinning still rocking from this, Matthew Hughes won the ball and laid Declan Baird on and Declan made sure that Kilwinning would soon know who would win the pace game 0-2. The game settled down for a few minutes before Troon lit the fuse with Matthew Hughes once again supplying Declan Baird a through ball. Declan had to work hard with the ball and was forced wide by the Kilwinning defenders. Declan got the ball onto his right foot and buried it from a tight corner. 0-3. The first half was coming to and end and the ref played an extra 3 minutes which Ryan McKee made the most of and wrapped up the first half with a goal of his own 0-4.
The second half was a lot more physical from Kilwinning. They came out with a plan to bully Troon into mistakes. Yes we did fall foul of this and a few mistakes were but the defenders especially George McClure stood up to them and won every ball. Donny Rorison, Liam and Declan Welsh worked well at the back and defended as a unit for the second half keeping Zack Batchelor covered. When Kilwinning did break Zack managed a couple of finger tip saves to keep Kilwinning out. 20 minutes into the second half Kilwinning broke with Logan Roberts tracking back. Logan won the ball but was sandwiched off the ball, with the coaches screaming at the ref from Kilwinning half, the ref gave a penalty apparently for a tug on a shirt by Logan. The resulting penalty was very well struck into the top right corner giving Zack no chance. 1-4. The best reaction to this would be for Troon to get back straight away and they did just that. Luca MacKenzie won the ball and drove forward down the left wing, squared the ball to Sammy Kyle who pulled the ball back for James Ferguson to power the ball into the back of the net, 1-5.
That is how the game finished with a fantastic result away from home.
Player of the Match award could have gone to a couple of players, George McClure held the defensive line and controlled what happened at the back with a great deal of pride and did not make one mistake through out the game. The one outstanding game player today though was the centre forward role of Declan Baird. His pace was by far better than the Kilwinning defenders and time and again Declan Baird out ran the Kilwinning defence all through the game, causing massive problems and forcing Kilwinning into mistakes. Even the referee and the opposition coach made a point of praising Declan Baird for his game today, so the PoM award goes to Declan Baird.
