With thanks

After hosting successful taster sessions in the summer, we have started a new Girls’ section across 3 age groups (U12s/U13s; U14s/U15s and U16s/Colts) here at Trowbridge RFC. The club has been working with the Bath Rugby Foundation over the season, who have been going to local secondary schools to encourage boys and girls who aren't involved in rugby to take part and this has helped socialise the opportunities for Girls’ rugby.

There are now c25 girls regularly training across the age groups and this will give the many girls playing in the mixed Minis section a chance to continue their rugby once they reach 11yrs. Trowbridge Wessex Mead Rotary Club members with links to TRFC have sponsored the Girls teams’ new match shirts.

Rotarian Liz Gouldson said “It’s great that TRFC are providing opportunities for girls to get involved in sport at all ages and we were really keen to support that. The shirts look brilliant and I’m sure the girls will wear them proudly when they play.” Trowbridge (Wessex Mead) Rotary club are also organising a fundraising Bingo evening at TRFC on 7th June.

Girls training next season will be on Sundays from 12:00 – 13:30. All girls are welcome, with the vast majority of the current girls having never picked up a rugby ball previously. While there are a number of ladies’ coaches, we are looking for more, as they move from 2 to 3 age groups next season, so anyone interested in supporting as a coach would be welcomed and they'd be well supported through the coaching requirements.
