WHITE Tigers’ boss, Lee Hodges, was happy to see his start the New Year with a win as we overcame the challenge of Poole Town by three goals to one at Treyew Road.
“It was important that we started the game well, and we did just that,” he said. “To get in front within the opening two minutes was brilliant and we managed to give ourselves a platform.
“We spoke at half-time about how we would have to work hard after the break to hold onto our lead and we had to dig in and defend well, but we deserved it.
“Our fitness levels were great in what were tricky conditions, but we stuck to our task, kept our shape and got the ball into the right areas.
“In the end we could have won by a bigger margin, but Poole Town are a decent outfit and don’t deserve to be down there. They made life difficult for us in the second half but we knew that the longer the game went on they would have to gamble and as such leave gaps, which we were able to exploit with the clinching third goal.
“To take six points off them is a great achievement and it’s nice to start the New Year with a win.
“It was a positive day for us and it’s a case of continuing to worry about what we do rather than what is happening elsewhere. We’re still very much amongst it and now our focus turns to the next game.
“I’ve got a good, competitive squad here with everyone working hard and playing their part.”
