DEFEAT FOR CITY AT PLAINMOOR

THE WHITE Tigers have gone down to a 6-0 pre-season friendly defeat at National League neighbours, Torquay United at Plainmoor.
We were caught cold in the opening minute when Luke Young curled the ball home from a free-kick.
The lead was almost doubled shortly afterwards when Lee saw an effort well saved by Tom McHale, but the second goal duly arrived when James Gray was on hand to guide the ball home from close range following a goalmouth melee.
It became 3-0 on 11 minutes when a quickly-taken free-kick caught out City and Gray was able to grab his second.
We were being taught a harsh lesson by the home side and Ryan Higgins got in on the act with a four goal before the quarter-hour mark when the full-back fired home with a powerful drive.
As the half went on we finally started to get into our stride and Stewart Yetton went close after we broke with pace then River Allen tried his luck from distance only for his effort to sail over the crossbar.
As we passed the half-hour mark we were starting to enjoy some decent spells of possession and Cody Cooke was just off target with a strike.
The half-time interval allowed the home side to regroup and they added a fifth goal early in the second period as Pittman strode through before tucking the ball beyond the reach of McHale.
Pittman thought he had another soon afterwards but it was ruled out for offside.
A header from Cooke at the other end struck the woodwork whilst McHale did well to deny Chaney.
The sixth goal eventually arrived when Higgins did well to pull the ball back into the path of Lathrope who lashed the ball home from the edge of the area.
Gosling missed a good opening for the home side as the closing stages of the game saw a number of substitutions made as it ended in a 6-0 reverse.

All eyes now are on next Saturday`s opening day National League South home game when we welcome Welling United to Treyew Road for a 3.00pm kick-off.
