THE WHITE Tigers grabbed a late equaliser to share the spoils with Welling United in a 2-2 draw at Plainmoor.
It was our visitors who drew first blood from the first corner of the game as the ball found its way over to the far post where Thierry Audell was on hand to guide the ball home with 15 minutes on the clock.
The goal gave our opponents plenty of belief as they pushed for a second and posed a number of questions of our back-line.
We tried to respond with Niall Thompson going close with two efforts from distance that flew off target.
We were finding it hard to get into our stride during the opening period against energetic opponents and we began the second half in positive mood.
A free-kick from Connor Riley-Lowe was met by a deft header from Ed Palmer who made his presence felt, but the ball landed just the wrong side of the post.
With Thompson pushed up and seeing more and more of the ball, and it was from one of his inviting crosses that Tyler Harvey saw his effort superbly saved by the visitors’ ‘keeper.
Our pressure finally told on 64 minutes when a mistake by the ‘keeper saw Thompson find the net to make it 1-1.
Despite looking like we could go on and win the game, we were hit with a goal for the visitors when Kiernan did well out wide on the right before crossing for Goldberg who found the far corner with his strike.
Rather than let our heads drop, we kept plugging away and Copp was denied by the ‘keeper as the visitors defended in numbers to try and preserve their lead.
It looked as though they had done their job until deep into stoppage time when a corner from the lively Thompson was met by the head of Jared Lewington who earned us a share of the spoils.
It was certainly a performance full of character from Ben Harding’s side.
