Despite a fighting display the White Tigers suffered their second successive Calor League Premier Division defeat.

It was a courageous performance by City who from the 34th minute were down to ten men following a rather harsh red card shown to central defender Aaran Pugh.

The game was given the go-ahead after an early inspection after some more sterling work by Corby groundsman and volunteers, but the conditions were tough throughout as the rain and wind swept across the pitch.

Truro started bright and the Steelmen were grateful to their goalkeeper Paul Walker who made a decent stop to deny Ben Watson, before pulling off an even better save from the same player when he punched the striker’s shot over the crossbar.

The game turned in the Steelmen’s favour when Pugh was sent off for a “professional foul” on home debutant Claudiu Hoban. A questionable refereeing decision from Marc Perry decision, possibly at worst a yellow card and free kick maybe, but a penalty and red – harsh!

Greg Mills hit the resulting penalty past ‘keeper Ollie Chenoweth, back in goal for the injured Grant Fisher, and it became 2-0 two minutes later when, from six yards out, Aman Verma touched home a cross from Hoban.

Even in the second half it wasn’t totally straightforward as the 10 men battled away and the Steelmen were hanging on towards the end.

Joint-manager Tommy Wright was denied by Chenoweth soon after the restart but Truro looked a lot more organised and began to pose a threat on the counter-attack. Just before the hour Watson was allowed far too much time in the area to turn and shoot past Walker, but inside three minutes Corby restored their two goal advantage when Mills sent an inch-perfect cross in from the left to the back post where Verma and Wright were queuing up to finish it off. Verma did just that as he calmly lofted the ball over Chenoweth.

Again City refused to lie down and six minutes from time Shane White gave City hope with his first goal of the season. A free-kick came in from the left, Paul Kendall headed it back and White stabbed home from close-range.

We now move on to our next match which is a home fixture against Weymouth on Tuesday evening.
