Mansfield RUFC - An Overview

Jordan White4 Aug - 09:54

As the season draws near, we take a look into some of the 'new' teams our First XV will be facing this seson in Counties 2

Founded in 1956, and based at Eakring Road, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, the club purchased its grounds in 1977 and opened the clubhouse in 1979.

The First XV currently compete in Counties 2 Midlands East (North), which sits at tier 8 in the English rugby union system. Home ground capacity is around 1,000 spectators

Teams & Facilities
The club runs three senior men's teams, a Veterans side, and a senior women’s team, plus junior teams from Under‑7s to Under‑18s, as well as Touch Rugby offerings

Facilities include a 3G rubber-crumb training pitch, an indoor sports hall (for football, badminton, netball, basketball or events), and a robust clubhouse used for social events like the Mansfield Folk Festival

Club Culture & Community
Mansfield RUFC is known for its welcoming and family‑friendly atmosphere, strong community involvement, and emphasis on sportsmanship and mutual respect on and off the field.

The clubhouse offers a range of hot food, including popular sausage cobs, beverages (alcoholic and non‑alcoholic), and is regularly used for functions and festivals.
Reviews highlight its clean facilities, friendly staff, and great vibe, though some note occasional inconsistencies in food quality or décor

Club Honors & History
The club has earned notable league successes:

Midlands Division 2 East champions (2003–04)

Midlands 3 East (North) champions (2007–08)

Promotion playoff winners in Midlands 1 East/West (2010–11)

At times they've reached National League 3 in 2011, but have since returned to regional competitions; recently they achieved promotion again in 2023. Mansfield is a proud member of the Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire RFU, among around 60 affiliated clubs in the region

After playing Mansfield 2's in the last few seasons, we look forward to welcoming their 1's to The Rec once again after a few years and can't wait to get going on the first game of the season at Eaking Road!
