point on the board

Tweedmouth picked up their first point of the season from a hard earned draw with Jed Legion, who have in turn drawn their first two games of the season. The game was played in a constant downpour and players from both sides struggled at times to come to terms with the slick surface.

Gibb, returning to the Amateurs line up for his first game of the season, showed him experience, making a last ditch tackle to keep his side level, before Thompson almost got on the end of a slack back pass at the other end. Tweedmouth eventually took the lead three minutes before half time. The move started with Crowe making a slide tackle to deny a shooting chance. Tweedmouth moved the ball at pace to Robertson on the right wing and his cross shot deceived the home keeper dropping in at the back post. The lead did not last long however, as Crowe misplaced a header from a long through ball. The clearance was latched on to by the winger who cut back for a finish from the edge of the area. No sooner had the game restarted when the referee blew for half time.

The visitors started the second half on the front foot. Robertson capitalised on a defensive error to set up Williamson, whose curling shot shaved the crossbar. On the hour mark Phillips then went on a surging run from the half way line, seeing his shot saved by the feet of the home keeper. Whilst Tweedmouth seemed to have the better of the territory, the home team always looked dangerous on the counter attack and their height was causing the Tweedmouth problems at set pieces. As the game wore on Robertson had two good chances to win the game for Tweedmouth, his first attempt blocked by a well timed last ditch tackle and his second by a fine save. Stobbart then earned the Amateurs a point with an excellent point blank double save.

There were several positives to be taken from the game by Amateurs, new signings Crowe and Stobbart both settling in to the team with fine displays, while it was also encouraging to see Renton return from long term illness to take his place on the bench, making a substitute appearance in the second half.

Tweedmouth would look to thank sponsors EDF Energy and Direct Pets for the contribution towards travelling expenses.
