Jenkins makes it a trio with three goals in his last three games for Tweedmouth as they see of B league side Biggar United in the 1st round of the Waddell Cup. For the second week in a row Tweedmouth started the game slowly and failed to get into any kind of rhythm in their play, with chances at both ends at a premium the home side did however have the better of the chances being created, but it was the visitors that took the lead after the home side failing to clear from the edge of the 18 yard box and leaving goalkeeper Stobbart exposed with no chance to make a save. Tweedmouth were forced into making an early change with Renton coming off with a shoulder injury to be replaced by Wright. Half time came at the right time for the home side but the wrong time for the visitors which after a ‘Highlighted’ team talk they started the second half far better and got back on level terms after just two minutes of the restart, following a corner from Tait, which was met at the near post by Wood to power his header home giving the visiting goalkeeper absolutely no chance. Phillips then brought himself of the bench replacing falconer in a tactical switch to give the home team some much needed greater energy, Tweedmouth found themselves well on top in the contest and Jenkins put them in front with a calm finish from a tight angle at the near post, which ended up being the winning goal despite the home side pushing for a third to put the tie out of the visitor’s reach. Tweedmouth can take credit for their workman like performance but must learn to start taking their chances in front of goal.
