A hypothetical take on an abysmal performance

Last Saturday saw the 3rd team travel to play Old Bristolians in an effort to boost them up a few places in the league. The game started slow and the team seemed to struggle to work together after such a long break. However, two quick goals before half time from Sam Woods and William Stonehewer Smith ensured the team talk was positive.
With the momentum in their favour the goals seemed to just keep coming. With a stunning goal from Matt Woods, venturing far from his position at centre back to slot the ball with a disguised slap into the bottom right corner unreachable by the goalkeeper.
The team worked well with many beautiful passages of play which left OBs defenceless and they could not come up with an answer.
Goals seemed to fall into place with a total of six being scored, the final one off a well worked Brooklyn's move from a short corner after the final whistle was blown. It surely was a day to remember......

At least it would have been if any of that were true. Unfortunately, the team was not up to standard after such a long break and a two week long exam period combined with a lack in availability in players, left the 3s with only two midfield subs. A lack of urgency and rustiness caused the OBs to dictate the majority of the game. Scoring 6 goals, 2 of which were unstoppable rockets into the top corners. The game is not without positives as there were periods where the OBs were definitely rattled and struggled to leave their own quarter. Saturday left the team with much to think about and improve on and they will before next Saturday.
