Chippenham vs Bristol 3s
*Apologies for the tardiness*
*Apologies for the awful Cascada attempt*
With several players’ ears still ringing with the sounds of a night at SWX headlined by Cascada, preparation for a game against a team placed second in the league was sub-optimal at best. Buckley decided to turn up in the wrong kit and we had to draft in a part time keeper, thanks goes to Swood’s house mate.
Captain Woods delivered one of his more rousing speeches which went something along these lines: (probably)
CAUSE EVERY TIME WE PLAY, I GET THIS FEELING
AND EVERY TIME WE SCORE, I SWEAR WE COULD WIN
CAN’T YOU FEEL MY HEAR BEAT FAST, I WANT THIS TO LAST
TEAM GET BY MY SIDE
Bristol began the match competitively, pressing their defence and transferring the ball effectively around the back. As has been often the way on a Saturday, however, Bristol failed to take advantage of the sustained pressure in the first 15 minutes and before too long found ourselves 2-0 down at half time. Despite this, Bristol felt we had offered enough up front that we could claw ourselves back into the game if we continued to play the simple but effective hockey we know and love. However, the tired legs began to go and Chippenham began to turn up the wick with some skilful and relentless attacks.
Bristol seemed to lose their heads and interest in the game and struggled to string more than 3 passes at a time before losing the ball - players were running the ball into open sticks and not playing the simple passes. By contrast it is worth mentioning that Chippenham almost scored a goal reminiscent of Argentina in the 2006 World Cup; they played the ball around for what seemed like an age before the final shot barely missed the far post.
The final result ended 5-0. However, it must be worth mentioning that had we had a more experienced (i.e. any experience) keeper, then the score may have been much closer. And if we had had a bit more composure when we did have the ball in the opposition D, the result may have been different. A common theme for our Saturday fixtures it would seem?
