A night of passion, love and beautiful memories

Yesterday saw us welcome back some of our finest alumni for the annual Old Boys Dinner. For the first time in 5 years, the Old Boys took to the field to shake off the cobwebs and show the youngsters the ways of old. In what we will loosely call a draw, there was some heroic tap tackling, some terrible handling, some overzealous kicking, a minimal amount of running and some more terrible handling, the UBHRFC players, young and old, demonstrated why this is such a fantastic club. Well done to all who played.

In the afternoon we took to The Ship Inn where our cheerful (because Wales had actually won a game) host Will provided us with some interesting cocktails to celebrate the English dismantlement of the Irish... Rusty social skills were quickly polished in preparation for the evening.

We moved to The Square at 7.30pm, where our wonderful hosts saw to our every need, providing a delicious meal and an all round great atmosphere. We would like to say a huge thank you to The Square and its staff for their hospitality - you really helped make this an awesome night and we are really grateful.

As well as welcoming back some old faces, we also said good bye to some other faces. The outgoing fifth years have contributed a huge amount to the UBHRFC over the past 6 years and the presentation of the (lovely) tankards at the meal was a fine way to see them off. Once again, on behalf of all outgoing fifth years, we love this club and will sorely miss it - and we will definitely see you all next year.

Thank you to all the Old Boys who came back - for your generosity and your wisdom. Thank you to all the current players who came along - for your frugality and imprudence. Thank you to Andrew Yarlett who chose the venue - a cracking choice. Thank you to Tom Geddes, Tom Edwards and again Yarlett for your kind words at the presentation of the tankards. Thank you to Will for the spicy chilli. Thank you to Danny Care for your lovely try. And thank you again to The Square for hosting a really special night. And thank you to Lounge for being so close to The Square. And thank you to everyone (to cover all I have missed).

So that concludes this brief summary of the night. The whole day was an absolute pleasure and I feel genuinely sad to realise I will not be an active part of this great club any longer. But I, and I'm sure many others, will make it a priority to come back every year for Old Boys meal.
