March the 12th was a momentous day in the history of the UBHRFC. Not only did we give Nantes a good thrashing of 25-17, maintaining our status as European Champions, but also we managed to contribute a fantastic sum of money to Cots for Tots, a massive £2891! For those of you who don’t know, the Cots for Tots appeal raises money for the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Michael’s Hospital, which treats premature and seriously ill babies from all over the Southwest. Furthermore, it helps support the Cots for Tots house, an accommodation unit opposite the hospital for parents and relatives that allows them to be as close to their children as possible. A fantastic cause I’m sure you’ll agree, of which we are extremely proud to support. Now not only do I expect everyone involved to give themselves a hearty nipple for raising such a momentous sum of money, but it also puts in to perspective how beautiful our voices must be when we descend upon Clifton every Christmas to partake in some carol singing. It is a fantastic achievement from all of the boys and certainly should inspire us to continue with our selfless imbibing around Clifton in order to help those families who are in unimaginable situations.
The club itself intends to support Cots for Tots for the foreseeable future, as it is a cause very close to our hearts, thus we were inspired to help with the campaigning for a ‘wrong trousers day’ on the 24th June of this year. Being a dashing and photogenic rugby club obviously gave us the confidence to flash our thighs in a photo shoot for this day, held prior to the annual game against Nantes Medical School. Whilst they looked on in fear as our very own chairman flaunted his calves in a fashionable tutu, we managed to obtain some truly vogue-worthy shots of us in our ‘wrong trousers’. Even more flatteringly, our shots have taken pride of place on the windows of the Grand Appeal headquarters opposite the Bristol Royal Infirmary. The Grand Appeal is the larger charity of which Cots for Tots is a part of and the ‘wrong trousers day’ is twinned with Wallace and Gromit, created by Aardman who are Bristol locals themselves. It is our absolute privilege to be a part of such a fantastic appeal and we hope to see as many of you as possible on June 24th in your wrong trousers. All that is left to say is that we hope to keep helping out such a fantastic charity in any way we can, now being proud ambassadors of the Grand Appeal. We look forward to continuing our relationship here and also educating Europe on our fast and free-flowing rugby for years to come. Huzzah!
