Having already won the League title URFC 1st XV played Burgess Hill Saturday for the Harvey’s of Sussex Shield, the day started well with Seaford and Haywards Heath Rams battling it out in the Plate final the Rams winning 23-21 a close exciting game, the huge crowd at Hempstead Fields were then entertained by URFC and BH Under 8’s and Seaford walking rugby showing that this great sport rugby is for all old or young, male or female, able bodied or disabled, all put on a great show between the finals.
The final was as expected a tight affair with neither side wanting to make mistakes, and none were made, URFC held the upper hand and were more clinical in the opposition final third scoring three tries and winning 20 - 8.
Our thanks and congratulations go to Head Coach Masefau Leuluniu (Mase) and his team they have worked so hard through the season with all the players including some very bright talent from our colts, Ben Cranfield, George Payne, Kieron Cheney, Mathew De Souza, Jack Monks, Stijn Brouwer who all have played a massive part in our success this year.
A story book ending to the season, achieving the double in our own back yard, massive congratulations to all the senior players who have put on the shirt this season, and I mean all the players as we were one of only clubs in Sussex who fulfilled all its league matches this season, a sad reflection on our game but I know the County are working hard to address this.
URFC would like to thank the 4 clubs who played in the finals and the team from SRFU who worked so hard through the season setting up the competitions and came supported on the day and handed out the honours, we would also like to thank the members from URFC who worked so hard on the day keeping everybody fed and watered a fabulous effort, and our fantastic sponsors who help make this all possible.
