Uddingston beat Stirling County in the first round of the Rowan Cup at Bothwell Castle Policies, knocking out the team who had defeated them in last year's competition.
Winning the toss, the New Williamfield team decided to bat first, and lost two quick wickets early as both Lucas Ware and Thomas Bradburn departed early. This left the team at 19/2 in the 5th over. However Amir Shahzad and Akash Rawal then added 99 for the third wicket before Rawal was run out for 33 in the 19th over. Shahzad stayed to the innings, hitting seven fours and two sixes to finish not out on 72, and Stirling closed at 124/3. Niall Alexander took one wicket for the villagers.
The Uddingston innings did not start well as Abdul Sabri was out second ball. Mo Awais and Ross Lyons then contributed 71 for the second wicket before Lyons was out for 47 in the 11th over. Awais was next out, bowled by Tom Bradburn with the score on 87. Gavin Bradley, who had replaced Lyons, anchored the innings and when he was out for 27, Uddingston required just 12 runs in the last three overs. Harmanjit Singh contributed two boundaries to see Uddingston home by four wickets.
