Former Rugby Player Zack Hope Announced on DU Hockey Roster

DENVER -University of Denver Associate Head Coach Steve Miller has announced the addition of eight student-athletes for the 2011-12 season. Josiah Didier (Littleton, Colo.), Daniel Doremus (Aspen, Colo.), Ty Loney (Valencia, Pa.), Larkin Jacobson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Wade Bennett (Gardena, Calif.), Matt Tabrum (Colorado Springs), Juho Olkinuora (Helsinki, Finland) and Zack Hope (Barrington Hills, Ill.) have made commitments to join the Pioneers for the 2011-12 season.
"We are pleased to complete our 2011-12 roster with eight quality student-athletes," Miller said. "Each one of our 11 incoming student-athletes will play a role making us a better college hockey team. We look forward to the start of the 2011-12 season on Oct. 1."

Didier, a 6-1, 180-pound defenseman, netted 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists in 58 games for Eastern Conference champion Cedar Rapids of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2010-11. Didier was selected by Montreal in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He is the son of Dave and Verleen Didier.

Doremus, a 6-2, 195-pound forward, tallied 35 points on 19 goals and 16 assists in 57 games for Sioux Falls of the USHL. He added a team-leading +20 plus/minus rating, four power-play goals, three game-winning goals and one shorthanded goal. He is the son of Andrew and Jeanne Doremus.

Loney, a 6-3, 185-pound forward, tallied 42 points and a team-leading 23 goals for Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. He led the Phantoms with eight power-play goals and had two game-winning goals. He reunites with former Phantoms teammate Scott Mayfield (St. Louis, Mo.) at Denver. He is the son of Troy and Aafke Loney.

Jacobson, a 6-2, 200-pound forward, tallied 39 points on 15 goals and 24 assists in 55 games for Janesville of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He added a team-leading 105 PIMs, six game-winning goals and five power-play goals. He is the son of Tom Jacobson and Debbie Fedotenko.

Bennett, a 5-8, 170-pound defenseman, tallied three goals in 25 games for Wichita Falls of the NAHL. Wade is the son of Kirk and Louanna Bennett and brother of Pioneer sophomore Beau Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

Tabrum, a 5-10, 190-pound forward tallied eight points on two goals and six assists in 33 games for Omaha of the USHL. He also tallied 12 points on 10 goals and two assists in 24 games for Sioux Falls of the USHL. He is the son of Mark Tabrum and Mary Strada.

Olkinuora, a 6-2, 190-pound goaltender, compiled 14-13-0 record with a 2.78 GAA and .900 save percentage in 27 games for Sioux Falls during his lone USHL season. He won all five starts from Feb. 18-March 9, making 30-or-more saves in four of the contests, including a season-high 36 saves in the 3-2 win vs. Des Moines on Feb. 26. He is the son of Hannu and Hilkka Olkinuora.

Hope, a 5-8, 155-pound junior, played goaltender for The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., of the New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association from 2006-09. He is the son of Francis and Kathleen Hope.

Bennett, Didier, Doremus, Jacobson, Hope, Loney, Olkinuora and Tabrum join Joey LaLeggia (Burnaby, British Columbia), Zac Larraza (Scottsdale, Minn.) and Scott Mayfield (St. Louis, Mo.) as incoming freshmen for the 2011-12 season.
