USA Rugby released its return to play (RTP) guidelines to outline a potential return to play scenario during the COVID-19 pandemic. Per the USA Rugby website, the guidelines were created “in reference to general protocol offered by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Rugby and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC).” Along with outlining updated COVID-19 rules of engagement for players and coaches on and off the field they also offer a general guideline for determining and executing a return to play. A safe return will take into consideration USA Rugby guidelines, CDC guidelines, local health officials mandates, and the University of Denver policies. New important changes include:
1. Reducing face to face contact (scrums, face to face tackles)
2. Reducing body contact (high fives, shaking hands, etc)
3. Suspension of carpools
4. Decreased size of training groups
