Engineers dominate the farmers

After the good result in the first match against the Medics, the Bummers wanted to continue on. Travelling out into farmer territory, we arrived at Harper Adams University. With the touchline a wall of Barbour jackets the game kicked off.

An early try from the Engineers’ captain Nick Finnegan put Harper Adams on the back foot, however the try was not converted. Harper Adams respond though with extended pressure inside the Engineers’ 22m, opting at one point to take a scrum under the posts from a penalty. Eventually a penalty against Harper Adams relieved the pressure.

The Engineers then came back from this pressure, putting Sam Scutt in to score but again the try was not converted. Scutt after scoring a try, prevent a Harper Adams try with a sensational tackle, injuring his shoulder in the process. However, despite their best efforts, Harper
Adams scored and converted to make it 10-7. The Engineers weren’t having any of this. A fantastic effort from the forwards turned over a scrum and a well worked backs move finished with Nick Finnegan scoring his second. This time the try was converted. Harper Adams then replied quickly scoring and converting making the half time score 17-12 to the Engineers.

After half time, with the ends switched Alex Dickens decided he didn’t like being a prop anymore and threw a very dubious spin pass but somehow gets away with it. Unlike Dickens, Guy Grimwood stuck to what he’s good at to turn over the ball and somehow squeeze through a gap to gun it home. Once again the try was converted. With the momentum behind the Engineers and everyone getting fired up, the team channelled their inner New Zealand to score an absolute superb try. Nick Finnegan finally gets bored of bullying the opposition after breaking a tackle to offload out to Louis Bounds and subs himself off.

The game goes quite until a sudden turned over line out leads to yet another Engineers’ try. Looking to pile on yet more points, Antonio Jardim tried to kick to touch yet underestimated his ability for once and kicked the ball dead. To round it all off, Louis Bounds breaks his opposite number’s ankles with an outrageous step and offloads to Antonio Jardim who outpaces everyone to run it in to make the final score 44-12 to the Engineers.

Final score: 44-12

Tries: Nick Finnegan (x3), Sam Scutt, Guy Grimwood, Louis Bounds, Antonio Jardim
