3 wins on the bounce...

Upminster travelled to newly promoted Ilford Wanderers on the back of two consecutive wins looking to make it three from three.

After a disjointed and poor pre game build up, the visitors were slow to start and became locked in an arm wrestle with the hosts for early dominance. Upminster started to grow as the first half wore on but poor discipline let the hosts off the hook in their own 22 on several occasions.

It wasn't long before the possession of Upminster started to tell and after turning over possession from Ilford, the ball was fed to winger Greg Dordoy who managed to sprint clear of the covering defence and score in the corner. Unfortunately, fly half Warren Lowe wasn't able to add the extras kicking into the wind.

Upminster continued to dominate and were awarded a penalty just inside Ilford's 22m, captain Grant Lowe choosing to kick the points but unfortunately brother Warren was unable to convert and pulled the kick just wide. This seemed to act as a kickstart to the hosts and started to put a bit more pressure on the visitors and after some poor defence and tackling from Upminster, Ilford managed to attack down the right hand side of the pitch and scored a converted try.

Upminster then hit back with a great try of there own, a break from inside centre Laurence Heywood who feed to Matt Munn before feeding back inside to winger Dan Smith who scored his fifth try of the season under the posts. Lowe added the extra's and went in 12-7 up at half time.

The second half started much like the first with a tussle for possession and territiory and after a stop and start beginning to the half Upminster started to take control. Replacement scrum half Harry Lockwood scored his first and the teams third try of the season following a maul 5 metres in from the touchline outside the 22m. Lockwood, spotted the space on the touchline and made the decision to go for it - thankfully rewarded with the try.

Upminster started to ease off the gas in the last 20 minutes and allowed Ilford more success with the ball than they should have but due to some ill discipline and indifferent decisions from the hosts saw the visitors clear there lines and kicked with the wind the length of the pitch. It wasn't until the final play of the game that replacement second row Luke Potter broke clear on the right touchline and scored the fourth try of the game for Upminster. The final score was 22-7 to Upminster.

Whilst Upminster have secured another bonus point win, there is some work to be down on the training field this week ahead of Lowestoft's trip to Hall Lane on Saturday where the boys will be looking to continue there good start.
