Upminster run out comfortable winners against Writtle at the fortress Hall Lane.
The first half was very scrappy with both teams struggling to look after the ball, Upminster more guilty of trying to force the pass when no need and also their first up tackling was below par. But Upminster's pack pretty much dominated every set piece. Upminster scored two quick tries through wing Alfie Simmonett and full back Chris Lamb, with lamb only converting one of the tries. Writtle hit straight back and with a well worked move their powerful inside centre ran in from just outside the 22 breaking a couple tackles to score a converted try. After that Upminster started to find their stride and with their slick offloading game going well there was tries for Matt Burke, Harry Long, Dan Cuerden and LukeTaylor with Lamb converting two of the tries.
Score at half time 36-7.
After a slow start to the second half Upminster soon turned on the style playing some really good rugby with tries for Jake Jones, Matt Byrne, Josh Simmons, another for Chris Lamb and a further two more for Alfie Simmonett to complete his hat-trick with Lamb converting five of the tries. Upminster ended the game on a sour note with young loosehead prop Andrew Byrne receiving a red card for picking up two yellow card offensives.
Final score 76-7.
Man of the match was openside flanker Dan Webber who was tremendous in the lineout in both attack and defence.
