The club in the university is the oldest club in the history of the Welsh game of rugby and the site of the birthplace of Welsh rugby as a result (something which has been verified and supported by the WRU). Despite being a university team the club maintains great pride in its traditions and its two official names, 'The Fighting Parsons' and 'The Mad Pilgrims' which hearken back to its beginnings as a religious training college.
As well as being the site of the oldest university in Wales the town team were also founder members of the WRU, after rugby had been brought to the town and a team established by Rowland Williams in the 1850's within the university.
Over the years the club has been an integral part of the university and its student identity, a highly recognisable presence on campus and within the community and an active community participant.
