Uxbridge were knocked out of the London and South East Junior Vase yesterday at the Quarter Final stage by a Croydon side from the Surrey 1 League

Uxbridge got off to a flying start with full back Luke Matthews chasing a clearance from Mickey Weymouth, the Croydon full back failed to deal with the wet ball and from the ensuing kick and chase, Luke scored to give Uxbridge a 5-0 lead after less than a minute played. Mickey Weymouth converted to extend the home sides lead.

Croydon came straight back, a powerful Uxbridge scrum put the away side under pressure but was adjudged to have been wheeled by the referee. A quick tap from the Croydon 9 took the ball down the blind side and missed tackles on the powerful opposition No.8 allowed him to score in the corner.

Uxbridge scored again with Luke Matthews brushing off some Croydon tackles to score, Mickey Weymouth again obliged with the conversion.

Croydon struck back with a penalty following several infringements and then a try, again through their No.8. Uxbridge were guilty of multiple infringements throughout the day and disciple will have to be worked on for next weeks game.

Uxbridge will be disappointed with some of their first up tackling on Saturday but once again showed serious strength up front, dominating the scrums and disrupting plenty of Croydon line-out ball.

Mickey Weymouth scored another penalty for Uxbridge following a period of sustained pressure from the home side but Croydon struck back with a further scored. They once again failed to convert the try giving Uxbridge the opportunity to work their way back up field. Mickey Weymouth missed his first attempt with the boot but not long after was given a second chance when further Uxbridge pressure resulted in Croydon being pinged for repeated infringements. This time Weymouth delivered to put the sides level with a few minutes to go.

Unfortunately that was as good as it got for Uxbridge as a last gasp move for Croydon created an overlap on the wing and they scored a try with the final move of the game.

Despite the defeat, Uxbridge can be proud of the cup run this season, strong performances have shown that we are more than capable of beating sides in leagues above our own, this can be taken into the league run in with big games to come in the next few weeks against Old Isleworthians, OMTs and Harrow.
